Africa’s universities and research institutions are essential engines for innovation, evidence generation, and solutions to the continent’s most pressing challenges. Yet, for many institutions, persistent gaps in systems, infrastructure, and capacity continue to limit their ability to conduct and sustain high-quality research.
Following the Research Readiness Assessment, Kenyan institutions received targeted support to improve grant proposal development, research visibility through website optimization, editorial practices of academic journals, and financial governance through GFGP certification. These interventions strengthened institutional credibility and increased competitiveness for international research funding.
In Ethiopia, RRA findings guided customized programs focused on grant proposal writing, journal editorial strengthening, digital research visibility, and advancement toward GFGP certification. These efforts enhanced institutional systems and positioned Ethiopian research institutions for greater global engagement.
Nigerian institutions benefited from RRA-informed interventions aimed at improving grant acquisition skills, academic publishing standards, institutional websites for research visibility, and financial grant management through GFGP certification—laying the foundation for stronger donor confidence and research sustainability.
The Research Readiness Assessment enables institutions to move beyond diagnosis — translating evidence into targeted action that strengthens Africa’s research ecosystem.
